Glen “Fuzzy” Weir passed away peacefully in his 72nd year on March 13th, 2023 at Parkwood Institute. Glen’s life centered around his family. He was a devoted and loving husband of 49 years to Elizabeth Weir (Older). He will be missed by his three girls, daughters Rachel Weir, Jeanette Mills (Josh Friesen), and Jacqueline Brown (Andrew). He was a dear Papa to Zackery Weir (Abby), Emily Mills, Gwen, Griffen and Callie Brown.
Glen began his sports career winning a sliver medal in wrestling at the 1971 Canada Games. Glen was a natural athlete who walked on the field for CFL tryouts and ended up a starter for the Hamilton Tiger Cats. He was then traded to the Montreal Alouettes where he played for 13 years (1972-1984). Glen won many awards over his career including: Eastern All-Star defensive tackle, Montreal player of the year, James P. McMaffrey Trophy, Most Outstanding Defensive Player in the Grey Cup Game, 5-time Grey Cup Participant, winning twice in 1974 and 1977. Glen was inducted into The London Sports Hall of Fame (2004) Canadian Football Hall of Fame (2009) and Dorchester Hall of Fame (2014).
Glen was an amazing husband, father, papa and friend to many. Glen never lost his sense of humour and always remained true to his humble small-town roots. He was loved by many and will be truly missed. The family finds peace during this difficult time as Glen always said he lived a full life and during his final days he continued to state “life owes me nothing!”. A special thank you to the 4th floor palliative care team at Parkwood Institute. Care and compassion were felt everyday from all staff.
As per Glen’s wishes, the family invites all to come and share memories and celebrate Glen’s life on Sunday April 16th at the Elm Hurst Inn between the hours of 1-5pm (eulogy at 2pm).
