77, of Windsor, died peacefully in Hants Community Hospital on Monday, January 30, 2023 in the company of music and friends.
Born January 24, 1946 to Arthur and Jean (Treen) Ritchie, he spent his early years in Middleton with summers at the family home in Malagash.
While working as a city planner in Halifax, David attended Mount Allison and Dalhousie universities, training as a teacher. His insight and commitment to young people inspired many. His artistic ability and intellect shaped his teaching of high school English and fine arts at Middleton Regional High School and later at Avon View High in Windsor.
David’s voice was also valued in leadership and volunteer roles. He was a tireless worker with the Nova Scotia Teachers Union, serving on the N.S.T.U. Board of Trustees, developing provincial drama curriculum, and acting as the anchor author for Aviso magazine for many years.
He served on the board of the N.S. Choral Federation, volunteering at summer choral camps and attending as a participant. His bass voice, like his personality, was both warm and stern. He spent many happy hours singing with the N.S. Symphony Chorus and Nova Voce.
David loved poetry, playing bridge, singing, swimming, drawing, painting, and his adopted cat, Hope. He enjoyed outings with his friends and hosting them in his home.
He was a kind, generous and thoughtful friend. He will be missed.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). As per David’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
