Gary Thomas Galway
April 22, 1955 – April 17, 2024
Gary Thomas Galway passed away at his home on April 17, 2024 in St. John’s Newfoundland at the age of 68. He’d recently been diagnosed with cancer, a disease he’d already beaten once before. He battled both occurrences with poise, dignity and an amazingly positive attitude.
Gary was born on Bell Island to Tom and Bride Galway. As a young man, Gary attended Memorial University of Newfoundland where he studied French. He also later attended George Brown College and Academy Canada focusing on computer studies. Over the years, Gary lived in Vancouver and Toronto but ultimately returned to Newfoundland. For more than a decade, he worked as a team lead and trainer for Telelink. He formed strong and lasting friendships with the owners and his co-workers, many of whom treated him like family.
For the last 8 years, Gary also provided primary support and stable living accommodations for Robert under one of the province’s adult care programs – an arrangement that greatly benefitted both of them.
Gary was predeceased by his parents and siblings Betty, Agatha, Kay, Linda and Ed. He is survived by siblings Leo, (Madonna) Pauline, (Gerard) Judy, (Ken) Don, Tom, (Lilaine) a large extended family.
Gary will be cremated and interred with his parents on Bell Island. A celebration of Gary’s life will be held in St. John’s in June.
