It is with broken hearts that the family of John Hutchings share his passing on Thursday, November 2nd, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He is predeceased by his parents, Wes and Marie Hutchings (nee Humphries), and grandson, Oliver.
Leaving to mourn with cherished memories: his loving wife, Betty (nee Nolan); his sons: Andrew and Jeff (Laura); grandchildren: Myles and Simon; stepdaughters: Alana, Andrea (Stephan), and Angela (Blair); his sister, Donna (Bill); his beloved dog, Rosie, and a large circle of extended family and close friends.
John enjoyed all things mechanics and was frequently found working in the garage on anything from a car to a lawnmower. He relished times riding his motorcycle and snowmobiling in the mountains; sports – namely hockey, golf and baseball; dinner parties with lifelong friends, engaging in vibrant discussion and debate; and time with those he loved. He was an avid reader, enjoying works of many genres. He will be forever remembered for his enthusiasm for correct grammar, his stoic strength, and genuine love of life.
The family would like to give special thanks to the doctors and staff of Eastern Health and the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Centre for their care and compassion throughout his illness, particularly Dr. Louise Rogers and the Palliative Care Team at the Dr. L.A. Miller Centre for his care in his final days.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be held at Carnell’s Funeral Home 329 Freshwater Rd. on Monday, November 6, 2023, from 2:00-4:00pm, and 7:00-9:00pm. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory can be made to the SPCA.
