Passed peacefully away, with family by her side, at the James Paton Memorial Health Centre on Sunday April 14, 2024, Jessie Louise Anthony of Gander, NL, formerly of Seldom, Come By, Fogo Island.
Leaving with fond and loving memories her first cousin, Doris Snow, of Campbellton, NL and a large number of other relatives and friends. Jessie was predeceased by her parents, Roland and May Anthony of Seldom.
An only child, Jessie grew up in Anthony’s lane in Seldom under the constant care and love of her devoted parents. In her early 20’s she made the bold decision to leave Fogo Island and move to Gander seeking employment. She landed a job at the Banting Memorial Hospital as an untrained Nursing Assistant. A few years later she went to Corner Brook to begin the Nursing Assistant course, returning to Gander for on-the-job training, and later went back to Corner Brook to complete her formal training. Following graduation Jessie returned to the Banting Hospital where she worked until 1964, when she moved to the newly opened James Paton Memorial Hospital. Jessie worked on the Obstetrics Unit at JPMH for 27 years, retiring in 1991.
Jessie resided at the Golden Legion Manor from 1999 to 2019. In December 2019 she moved to Oram’s Bethesda Manor, where she resided until her recent admission to hospital. The family would like to thank the staff at Oram’s Bethesda Manor for the care they have given Jessie over the past four years and also a sincere thank you to the staff of the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Medical Unit for their care during this difficult time.
Family will be receiving friends at Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander on Tuesday Aril 16, 2024 between the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday April 17, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. from Fraser Road United Church, Gander officiated by Reverend Stephen Matthews with interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers donations in Jessie’s Memory may be made to the Fraser Road United Church, Gander.
