It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Raymond Ronald Hein, late of Bethune, SK, at the age of 83 years.
Ron was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was born August 10, 1940, the youngest of 9 children, on his family farm, located north of Bethune. He married Opal Sandvold on June 16, 1962.
Ron was predeceased by his parents August and Emma Hein; sisters Irene (Jack) Wolf, Martha (Alfred) Wolf, Marion (Phillip) Chypiska, Erna (Walter) Schaffer, and Dolores Groff; brothers Herb, Dennis, and Alvin Hein; as well as in-laws Ernie Millar, Loretta (Stuart) Morton, Devone (Ramona) Sandvold, Corny Smith, and Alvin Sandvold. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Opal; daughter Shauna (Ron) Gemmell; son Jason (Tammi); grandchildren Jasmine (Greg), Dawson and Carter (Jarhico); brother-in-law Glen Groff; sisters-in-law Alice Hein, Judy Hein and Virginia Hein; as well as in-laws Vivian Millar, Marjorie Sandvold, Karen Smith, Roald (Mary) Draycott, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Ron was very loving, kind, compassionate, and devoted to his family and friends. He wore many hats during his work life, including farming, carpentry, working at the curling rink, driving road grader, as well as many other jobs. He had built many homes and local community buildings with his amazing carpentry skills. Ron also enjoyed spending his time playing fastball with the Goldridge Gophers, golfing, curling, gardening, and volunteering with numerous local community boards, teams, and events. He was always willing to help a hand wherever he was needed. Ron struggled without complaint over the past few years dealing with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), that eventually had him move down to the Lumsden and District Heritage Home in June of 2022.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at the home for their help and support in Ron’s care. A Memorial Service will be held at the K+S Community Hall in Bethune on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ron may be made to Bethune Cemetery, Box 172, Bethune, SK, S0G 0H0 or to Lumsden and District Heritage Home, 10 Aspen Bay, Lumsden, SK, S0G 3C0.
