Gerry Blay, formerly of London, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2023 at the age of 85.
Beloved husband of Diana Blay (Palmer). Dear father of Jo-Ann Blay-Rowan, Jill Hickmott (Brian), Jerri-Lynn Blay (Jim), Jackie Pierce (Brad) and Brian Blay (Diana). Loving grandfather of Tara and Christopher Rowan; , Breanne and Alicia Hickmott (Mike), Wesley Pierce (Megan); Cody, Taylor (Cheyne) and Jacob Blay. Great grandpa of Dahlia, Sunny, Leif, Jace and Jack. Dear brother of Paul, and Tom (Becky) Blay. Dear brother-in-law of Ernie Zaple, Bob, Ted, and John (Barb) Palmer. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents Reg and Vivian Blay, brother Bill, and sisters Marilyn Zaple and Sally (Jerry) Oliver.
Gerry was a member of the City of London Fire Department for over 32 years until his retirement as a Captain. Following his retirement, the couple lived in Clinton and later Mitchell. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports. Gerry was an avid Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leaf fan.
A private family funeral service will be held at the Lockhart Funeral Home, 109 Montreal St., Mitchell. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Huron Perth would be appreciated and may be made at LockhartFuneralHome.com.
