On April 9th, 2024, Margaret Jane Henderson passed away peacefully with her family by her side, at the age of 79.
Daughter of late John and Leni Henderson and sister of late brother Alan. Beloved mother of Phaedra (Michel) Renaud and Jeremy Povey; much loved Nani of Ethan, Justine, Kyle, Bailey, Chantel, Dylan, and wife of late Alasdair Cayley. Survived and lovingly remembered by her siblings Pam, Albert (Helen), John (Rita) and Leslie (Charlie), and her many friends.
Born in Davos, Switzerland and raised in the Hotel Larix, Margie arrived in Canada 60 years ago and made a very full life for herself while remaining very close to her roots and siblings in Switzerland. She frequently went home to Davos and enjoyed skiing and hiking in the Alps with her beloved parents and siblings.
Her entrepreneurial spirit led her into many exciting careers and business opportunities. She owned and ran three successful businesses, which she was passionate about; Great Canadian Emporium, Aniforms and Haley’s Hints. If you were lucky enough to work with her you were valued, appreciated and became a friend that was inspired by her work ethic, integrity, and intelligence.
Although she was busy at work, that never stopped Margie from giving her children the quality time and love needed. Love included lots of snuggles, jellybeans, dance parties and nightly singing of the lullaby Guten Abend Gute Nacht. Our family life was enriched by the close relationships with her brother Alan, the Rath, Chiappetta, Connolly and Egan families.
She always chose to spend time with her friends and as a result she had so many amazing friendships. Memories with friends included pool parties, cruises, golf and theatre. She loved to host her friends and recognized that friendships are to be cherished.
In retirement, she found new passions, those being sleepovers with her 6 grandchildren, golf, and a life in Fort Myers. She was a beloved member of two golf clubs, which included being an active member of the ladies’ leagues at Hidden Lake and Kelly Greens. She was always thankful for her life and generously donated to others and knitted for women in need.
As her Alzheimer’s progressed, she joined a loving community, Memory and Company, in which she thrived and continued to enjoy life. We sincerely thank the staff that became a part of her family and with their loving care ensured that she maintained her character, independence, and dignity. We are forever grateful.
There will be a Celebration of Life on May 5th, 2024 at the Ancaster Mill, from 1:00-5:00 p.m. We hope friends, family and colleagues will come to celebrate, have some “schnacks” and enjoy sharing stories about the life of Margie. Love and laughter are welcome.
