March 14, 1974 – December 31, 2023
It is with great sorrow that we must announce the death of our only son, Scott Franklin Mitchell; he died suddenly in his apartment in Huntsville Ontario on December 31, 2023; in his 49th year. He is survived by his parents Frances and Gordon Mitchell, his sister Sheena Mitchell, and niece Keira Brisebois.
Scott was born in Cornwall Ontario and was adopted by Fran and Gord Mitchell at 15 months of age, to join our family and his new sister Sheena. We lived and loved life together in Cornwall and got started in school. In 1979, the family was transferred to St. Catharines as his dad had a new job with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food. While in St. Catharines Scott became heavily involved in playing soccer and hockey. He was awarded the best goalie of the Kiwanis Hockey program in 1983. The Lock View School in our backyard was also a favorite place for Scott. In 1984 the family moved finally to Huntsville Ontario where Scott finished his school days and entered the food preparation business – working for several restaurants – there he became terrific in food preparation for the many customers.
Scott fell in love with basketball after watching a Chicago Bulls game and of course, Michael Jordan. He always had a ball ready to shoot a basket and practiced day and night. This inspired his love of Michael Jordan’s running shoes. Scott couldn’t wait until the next edition came out to buy another pair of Air Jordans. He was Huntsville’s version of Mrs. Markel as he owned 30 pairs of running shoes. He even changed the name of one of our cats to Jordan!
His apartment at 14 Meadow Park Drive become a big part of his life in the last twenty years, he has made many friends there; always lending a helping hand wherever he was able. His other love has been his cats, he enjoyed many of them in his apartment.
A memorial service has been planned for Scott at Trinity United Church, 33 Main Street East, Huntsville, Ontario on January 5th at 11:00 AM.
If you wish – you may make donations in memory of Scott to Trinity United Church, Huntsville Ontario, the Canadian Mental Health Association, the Huntsville Hospital Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
