It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of an incredible woman, Bjorg Karin House, who left this world on December 18th, 2023, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her partner, Claude Laferrière, her four children, Kris (Jocelyn), Kara (Andy), Lisa, and Brant (Nicole), as well as her six grandchildren, Justin, Bryce, Logan, Malique, Kendra, and Audrey. Karin is also survived by her brother, Steinar Moy (Joanne), her niece, Petra, nephew, Adam, her aunt, Sigrund, and her sister-in-law, Kathy.
Born on March 4, 1947, to Olaug and Ragnar Moy in Kristiansand, Norway, Karin moved with her family to Canada in 1949. She grew up in Brampton, attended teachers college in Toronto, and spent several years teaching English and art at public schools in Brampton before moving with her husband and young children to Huntsville in 1981.
Throughout her life, Karin approached each day with optimism and enthusiasm, living authentically and unapologetically. She possessed remarkable inner strength, finding joy regardless of circumstances, whether in the company of others or during moments spent alone. Karin delighted in the little projects and simple pleasures of everyday life, demonstrating a profound appreciation and excitement for the smallest things. She was never bored; each day presented challenges and opportunities that she embraced and delighted in.
Over the years, Karin explored many interests and occupations, bringing her creativity, resourcefulness and ingenuity to all pursuits. Among her many talents, Karin was an accomplished artist, seamstress and builder. Her artistic skills were most often applied in the most practical of ways–typically to solve a problem or save money–and she had no sentimentality about her work, often restarting projects multiple times until the desired effect was achieved.
Karin’s radiant spirit and bubbly personality touched the lives of everyone around her. She had a remarkable gift for making each person she encountered feel special and appreciated. Karin will be remembered and treasured for, amongst other things, her infectious laugh (funny moments would often bring her to tears), her passion for good conversation (she could talk for hours on the phone with beloved friends and family members), reading stories to her children and later, to her grandchildren, her gleeful excitement whenever she won a card game, and her unique, healthy cooking.
In accordance with Karin’s wishes, no formal memorial service will be held. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were touched by her love, laughter, and remarkable spirit.
