It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Keith Allister Bovaird, age 84 on February 1, 2024. Keith was born on September 4th, 1939 in Saint John, NB. He was the son of the late Ronald and Vera Bovaird (nee Sherwood), the youngest of five children.
From an early age, Keith never shied away from hard work and industry and as a youngster, he worked on the dairy farm located next door to his childhood home in Kingshurst NB. As a youth he loved outdoor pursuits including fishing and hunting. These skills served him well when, after enlisting in the Canadian Air Force 1956,he quickly impressed his training officer by outshooting the instructor at initial target practice. Keith worked as ground crew and rarely, if ever, flew while in the service. We think this suited Keith fine.
Several years later, in 1961 Keith married his sweetheart, Carole Lee Binding and the couple moved to Port Perry, Ontario where they raised their two sons, Bradley and Tony. During this time, Keith worked as a school bus driver for the Pineridge school board and later as a transport assistant for Whitby Psychiatric Hospital. When his sons were young they would travel as a family in a Volkswagen van that Keith has customized as a ‘fitted out’ camper for their excursions, often times down to the Maritimes where they would visit Keith’s parents and siblings at the family cottage at Crawford Lake, NB.
After 53 years of marriage, Keith sadly lost his wife, Carole, to cancer in 2015, and in 2016 his son, Tony, passed away.
Keith was always someone to lend a hand and help out his friends and people in his community. Frugal and with a make-do/can-do approach to life, Keith relished a project or activity that would take a burden off of someone else. He also enjoyed his time spent with his son Bradley and his three grandchildren and eventually his great-grandchildren.
Keith is survived by his son Bradley (Lorraine) of Bowmanville, Ontario, sisters Jeanette Jarvis of Nepean, Ont, Arlene Eadie of Port Hope, Ont, Arvilla Jonah of Inniskillin, sister-in-law Rhetta Bovaird, Rothesay, NB and special friend Judy Dawson.Keith is also survived by his three grandchildren, Emily, Kia and Nicholas and great grandchildren Logan,Wyatt,Brooklyn and Brynlee. He also leaves to mourn several nieces and nephews. Keith was predeceased by his late wife Carole, his son Tony and his brother Eugene.
Arrangements are under the care of Brett’s Funeral Chapel. At the family’s request, there will not be a visitation or a service. A kind deed or gesture done for a friend or stranger, in remembrance of Keith, would be appreciated.
