Joseph Melbourne “Mel, Grandpa Cu” McIsaac
– 76, Valley, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love
of his wife and daughters, on Wednesday morning, May 1, 2024, at
Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in New Waterford, he
was a son of the late Allan and Flora (MacDougall)
McIsaac.
Mel was very proud that he started his career with Canadian
Armed Forces which enabled him to see much of Canada. He then went on
to work for 30 years with Nova Scotia Power where he made many great
friends during the good old days. In earlier years, he enjoyed walking
and bowling.
He and his wife moved many times and lived in Port
Hawkesbury, Durham, Quispamsis, New Brunswick and now in Valley; with
each move they enjoyed remodelling and renovating their homes, and
keeping a meticulously landscaped yard, often the envy of the
neighbourhood. He loved wildlife and had nicknames for many of the
animals that visited, and he had a soft spot in his heart for their
shepherd/lab, Ian Angus The Cu. He will be remembered (and missed?)
for his sarcastic sense of humour which kept family, friends and
hospital staff on their toes right to the end!
Mel is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Linda
(Gillis); daughters, Melinda (Scott) MacDonald, Creignish; Lori (Mike)
Bewsher, Grand Bay-Westfield, New Brunswick; grandchildren, Seamus
MacDonald, Braden MacDonald, Callum MacDonald, Elena Bewsher; sister,
Heather Kavanaugh, New Waterford; sister-in-law, Annette McIsaac,
Glace Bay; brothers-in-law, Bill Sehl, Quispamsis, New Brunswick; Joey
Nugent, Lingan; several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he
was predeceased by his brothers, Daniel “Dan” McIsaac,
Melbourne in infancy; sisters, Carmie Sehl, Neila
Nugent.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Mel’s
family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, May 4, 2024. If
so desired, donations in Mel’s memory to Colchester
– East Hants Hospice Society or Colchester Food Bank are
