In Remembrance
On the evening of March 7, 2024, Frank, age 98 years young, left this world behind as he wished, in his own home and with loved ones by his side.
Like many young men at the time, Frank lied about his age so he could join the military and fight in World War II. He served for another 30 years in the Canadian Armed Forces as a dental technician. Upon retirement, he decided that Dalhousie University and the dental school would be his next adventure. He became a Registered Dental Technologist and set up his own business, which he worked for another 25 years. Throughout his working career, Frank had many adventures and saw some amazing things. He liked to share the stories with his family and friends, and we will miss hearing those stories. He was proud to be a World War II veteran.
Always looking for something to do in his down time, Frank volunteered whenever he had the chance. He was involved in the Kingston Lions, serving in several capacities, and doing a term as Head Lion. During the summers he could be found at the Paragon Golf & Country Club, helping with the Junior Program, volunteering for tournaments or just golfing, which he did until he was 97. He liked to stay busy. He was a social butterfly, an accomplished flirt and loved being among people.
Frank leaves behind daughters, Fran (Art) Gervais, Theresa (Tim) Steadman and his son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Cheryl, who helped Frank maintain his independence and stay in his home until the end; grandchildren, Joey, Lisa, Mandi (Lyndsy), Craig (Natasha), Dedra, Jace, Jordyn and Darienne; great-grandchildren, Keith (Cassie), Brooke, Ocean, Paxton and Parker; step-great-grandchildren, Josey, Samara, Ivy and Aleigha; sisters, Marie Morton and Eleanor Ivanko; several nieces and nephews. He will truly be missed by his grand-dogs, Kevin, who always found his happy place on Frank’s lap or at the foot of his bed keeping a watchful eye over him, and Shady.
He was predeceased by his wife, Violet; daughters, Sharon and Joanne; grandson, Jamie; parents, George and Arthemese Martell; brothers, Bill Martell and Carmen Martell; sisters, Alice Curtis and Jeanie Shultz.
Frank also had an amazing team of people helping him stay in his home and live his best life these last couple of years. A huge thank you to all the Angels from Senior Home Care By Angels, Janet Welton and Dr. Sonya Swift of the Palliative Team, Dr. Miller Makramalla, and the nursing staff of the VON, for all of your guidance, wisdom and hugs on the last leg of Frank’s incredible journey. We could not have done this without you and, for that, we are eternally grateful.
