Obituary of Gerry Sneekes
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gerardus “Gerry” Wilhelmus Sneekes announce his passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on March 21, 2024, at the age of 87.
Born in Castricum Holland on October 16, 1937; he was the son of the late Conelius and Catherine (Boon) Sneekes and the husband of the late Eva (Betjes) Sneekes.
Gerry came to Canada at nineteen and never looked back. Bringing his fiancé a year later once established.
Gerry was very active in the town of Sus over the years. Serving as town councilor in the 70’s and very active in growing businesses in town.
He was the owner of Nova Mobile Homes in Halifax before making his way to Sus where he would become co-owner of MMH and Frame Co, as well as Sus Machine Shop and J and J Machine Shop.
Gerry enjoyed a cottage on Washademoak Lake with Eva and the grandchildren for many years.
Often, he would create toys or furniture for his family, we would call it Gerry certified as it would never be made without great strength. It became a running joke in his family.
Gerry’s passion for speeding was always known by many and he soon gave up the joy after a bet with Eva.
He was a hardworking man and a great provider for his family. He taught them great life lessons and how to enjoy life. He will be greatly missed.
Gerry and Eva were wonderful parents and they will live on in the hearts of their children: Susan Horner and her husband Mike of Victoria, BC, Caroline Fry and her husband Rodney of Fredericton and David Sneekes of Fredericton; his sisters: Wilma Arisz of Sus, Toos Bakkum and her husband Jacob of Oss, Holland and Arcadia Hullsmann of Essen, Germany; his grandchildren: Danielle Micacchi (Taylor), Kathleen Moore (Mikhail), Sarah Melnyk, Ashley Rossignol (Patrick) and Spencer Fry (Holly); his great grandchildren: Cole, Leni, Luke, Evan, Isla, Nathaniel, Elisabeth, Miriam, Joseph and Matthew; his special nephew, Marcus deWinter; his brother-in-law, John deWinter of Sus; his sisters-in-law: Corrie, Irma, Athie and Annie Sneekes of Holland; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents and his beloved wife; he is predeceased by his brothers: Albert, Cornelius, Theo, John and Simon Sneekes; his sisters: Ans (Marius) vanden Boss, Riet (Kees) Bentjes and Nellie deWinter; as well as his brother-in-law, John Arisz.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sus (506-433-1176). At Gerry’s request all arrangements will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Sus Senior Club or the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Personal condolences to the family and donations may be made through wallacefuneralhome.com
