Obituary
It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Danny Coneen who left us suddenly and far too early on September 26th, 2023 due to complications following a brief illness. Danny was born October 30th,1958 in Moncton, New Brunswick and is survived by his father, Albert Ray Coneen, sister Holly Steeves, brother Tom Conneen, nieces Tanya Steeves, Lisa Steeves and Amanda Coneen.
He was 20 years old when he moved to Halifax and got his first job. Between then and retirement from FedEx in the fall of 2022 Danny had many different jobs and wore many hats. You might have worked with him at the Keg, the Economy Shoe Shop or the Bermuda Film Festival. Maybe you hired his landscaping company – Trimmin’ Some Bush. You were sure to see Danny in his many roles in the film/music and entertainment industries of Nova Scotia over the years. If you were lucky you may have spotted him teaching folks how to milk a cow for the Dairy Farmers of Canada, or driving a school bus full of kids, always with a smile (and sometimes with a colorful word).
Danny came out in the late 70’s and was a lifelong champion, friend, and proud member of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Not in the marching or flag way, but in the simple belief that every human deserves to love who they love and live their life as they choose.
Danny was a great lover of animals – he grew up riding and caring for horses, he had goats, sheep, hens, ducks, and peacocks on the farm, he tolerated cats (and loved a few) and, of course, he had a great love for Boxers that was infectious.
The one thing that has been said again and again since he passed, was that he always had room for one more at his table. Danny introduced many of us to “Orphans Christmas /Thanksgiving”, when his friends didn’t have a place to go for the holidays. He loved to cook and entertain, and his kitchen was always full of love and laughter.
Danny did not suffer fools and when he paid you a compliment, you knew he meant it. If he liked you, you knew it, and if he didn’t, you’d know that, too. If you were lucky enough to be counted as one of his friends, do him the honor of throwing a great dinner party and enjoy it fully!
Memorial donations can be made to the animal rescue of your choice.
Details on Celebration of Life gatherings in Moncton and Halifax areas to follow.
F#@k, we love and miss you Danny.
