Clarence “Ike” Johnson Obituary
In loving memory of Clarence “Ike” Isaac Johnson, who was born on January 2, 1933, in Stettler, AB. He passed away peacefully at home on February 7, 2024, at the age of 91. Ike was one of 16 children born to Walter and Crystal (Viers) Johnson. In 1944, Ike moved to Revelstoke, BC with his parents, where he attended high school. It was in Revelstoke that Ike met the love of his life, Florence Ethel McLeod, while she was attending a school in Revelstoke and boarding with Ike’s sister Mabel and Wenty Smythe and family.
Ike and Florence were married on July 4th, 1956, and remained married for an admirable 68 years. Ike’s advice to a long marriage was “just go to work, whatever you do, just go to work”. Ike and Florence had three daughters and two sons. The family resided in various locations including Malakwa, Revelstoke, Mica Creek, and Sicamous.
Ike had a strong work ethic and enjoyed working as a farrier, horse trainer, equipment operator, mechanic, millwright, and logger. For several years, Ike and Florence managed the South City Trailer Court in Mica Creek. “This is the place where many stories and lifelong friendships were made.” Ike worked at several places including McKinnon Dairy Farm, John and Dot Renaud’s RER Equipment, D Dutchmen Dairy, and the District of Sicamous. Ike enjoyed spending time working on the farm and running the equipment, One of Ike’s sayings to his son was “Rome wasn’t built in a day because I wasn’t the goddamn foreman.”
Anyone who knew Ike would agree that he was a hard worker.
Ike and Florence enjoyed camping and spending time with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren”. Ike valued spending time with his family, and he made sure to show love to each family member. In 1975, Ike, Florence, and their children started to build a new home and moved to Sicamous BC. This home had a constant stream of family in and out and where many wonderful memories were made. Ike was a beloved member of the Sicamous community. Ike was passionate about sports and played an important role in the construction of the arena in Sicamous BC, He was also known for never missing his children’s hockey games. This tradition continued later in life as he continued to support his grandchildren and great-grandchildren by supporting and attending their games. Ike was a highly respected man, loved by many, and his absence will be deeply felt.”
Ike was predeceased by his parents Walter and Crystal his in-laws Clareence and Annie McLeod, thirteen siblings, His son in Law Jeffrey Lind Keetley, grandson Jason Scott Pylatuk his daughter-in-law Teresa Yvonne Johnson and son in-law Paul Bede.
Ike is Survived by his loving wife Florence Ethel Johnson, his sister Olive Taferner, and brother Paul (Marge)Johnson
Daughters Dorothy (Jim)Scott, Anita (Alan) Pylatuk, Brenda Bede-Johnson, Sons Jeff Johnson (Amy) and Les Johnson. Grandchildren Cheryl (Curt), Luke, Angela (Jesse) Katie (Dylan) Cory, Dawn (Ryan)Whit (Jackie), Kayla, Krystal (Danny), Cole (Jeslou), and Hallah. Great Grandchildren- Jeffrey, Jacob, Peyton, Kristian, Riley, Austin, Logan, Colt, Gaven, Nora, Tristan, Mason, Emilyn,
Alexandra, Whitfield, Cidney, Sunny, King Isaac, Kohen, Payten, and Ryder, and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday February 17, 2024 1:00 pm at Sicamous Alliance Church. Tea to follow at the Sicamous Senior Center.
