William ‘Bill’ McCallum 2022

1940-2022
With sadness in our hearts, we announce the passing of our wonderful Dad, Bill McCallum, at the age of 82, with loved ones at his side.
Bill grew up in Edmonton and went to St. Joseph’s high school. He met the love of his life Carroll and they married in 1964.
Bill was very competitive and developed a love of both curling and golf. He began curling early and was the 1958 high school champion – he proved to be a strong competitor, winning many titles over the course of his career including: 3 Derrick Yuletides, 3 Shamrock Shotguns, 8 time zone NACA winner , 1980 NACA Bonspiel and 3 time city club champion. He was also a lifelong golfer winning many titles and events, including the 1992 Highlands senior championship, and also had 7 hole-in-ones over his lifetime. He spent many years as a member and volunteering on the board of the Highlands golf club.
Bill was very adept with electronics and always had a tv around that he was fixing up. Bill began his career at NAIT as an electronics instructor, and eventually became the department head for electronics. He developed a love of fundraising at NAIT and was chosen as the head of the NAIT foundation where he spent many years developing strong sponsorships with industry to develop NAIT into a world class facility. After NAIT, Bill led the fundraising for the Christmas Bureau of Edmonton where he spent many years driving donations and generosity to those in need of support in Edmonton.
Bill and Carroll retired as soon as they got the chance and enjoyed long road trips traveling around to many places around Canada and the US. They loved wintering in Arizona and enjoyed driving south with their stops along the way in Idaho and Nevada. When Carroll passed away, Bill continued to enjoy his winters in Phoenix and his drives down recounting the memories of the places he and Carroll loved to stop. He continued to be very active and enjoyed golfing through both the summers and winters and working at the Legends Golf club where he developed great friendships.
Bill was predeceased by his wife, Carroll, his mother Kathleen, his father Hall, and brothers Doug and Patrick.
Bill is survived by his 3 children Patrick, Colleen (Kelly), Melanie (Richard), and grandchildren Stephanie and Marc. He is also survived by his siblings Janet (Don), Melanie, Margaret and Lawrence. He leaves behind many friends and extended family members that will miss him greatly.
The funeral will be held at St. John Bosco Catholic Church at 13503 40 St NW, Edmonton on Saturday January 14th at 11:00 am.
In memory of Bill, donations to the Christmas Bureau of Edmonton would be greatly appreciated by those in need, especially at this time of year. www.christmasbureau.ca/
