Scott Scottie MacGillivray 1980 2022

Obituary of Scott MacGillivray
Scott “Scottie” Bradley Gerard MacGillivray, 42 of Lanark, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family in the palliative care unit of St. Martha’s Regional Hospital on September 16, 2022. Born in Antigonish, he was the son of Raymond and Therese (Carnell) MacGillivray.
Scott was a true inspiration to all who knew him. He lived life to the fullest under very trying circumstances. Scott made the best out of every day he was given, having lived with a life-long chronic health condition that included four kidney transplants, countless surgeries and procedures, and lengthy stays in the hospital. While navigating his own challenges, he always offered support and encouragement for others experiencing complex medical issues. His commitment to raise awareness, inclusion, and self-advocacy to Dialysis and Kidney Disease did not go unnoticed and was of utmost importance to Scott. Despite traveling frequently to Halifax for Dialysis treatments, he remained dedicated to his education and was a graduate of Dr. John Hugh Gillis Regional High School, Antigonish.
Scott was a true sports fan. He loved cheering for the Ottawa Senators, Toronto Blue Jays, and San Jose Sharks. He could spend hours talking about last night’s game, players stats, and was often seen sporting his teams’ logos. In addition to his love of sports, Scott loved his special dog companion, Daisy. He could usually be seen sitting on the veranda with Daisy on a sunny day enjoying the beautiful view he loved so dearly. Those who knew Scott will know that chatting was his favourite pastime. It didn’t take very long for a person to go from stranger to dear friend in his eyes. He greatly cherished his connections with those around him and looked forward to sharing stories with anyone who would stop to have a chat.
Besides his parents, Scott is survived by brothers; Keith (Heather) Fort St. John, BC, Matthew (Sara) Guelph, ON, Andrew (Kali) Brierly Brook, John (Meagan) Calgary, AB, Daniel (Brittany) West River, and sister Angela (Charles) Vlasic, Little Harbour. His several nieces and nephews; Marc, Aevan, Joey, Liam, Ella Rose, Rori, Katherine, and Ian. Scott is predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Roderick and Mary Catherine (MacDonald) MacGillivray, Lakevale and maternal grandparents John and Alyce (Fancy) Carnell, Glen Road; uncle Bernie Carnell, Ontario and his beloved first dog Belle.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, especially the Renal Dialysis Unit and Palliative Care Unit, Dr. Mary Gorman, Dr. Emily Rice, Dr. Lisa Gillis, and Jill Leon who have all shown great care and compassion.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 Tuesday, September 20, 2022 in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass 11 am Wednesday in St. Ninian’s Cathedral with Fr. Donald MacGillivray presiding. Reception to follow. Burial in the parish cemetery. Face masks are encouraged at both visitation and funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Renal Dialysis Unit or Palliative Care Unit of St. Martha’s Regional Hospital.
