BRUCE’S OBITUARY
Bruce was born in 1969 and moved from Antigonish to Pugwash at the age of four. He attended Cyrus Eaton Elementary and Pugwash District High from which he graduated with honours in 1986.
Bruce enjoyed playing his guitar, music, music history, and movies. He was very competitive in sports including basketball (PDHS Panthers), golf, softball, ice hockey, and played ball hockey in leagues. He was the guy you always wanted on your team and was admired for his sportsmanship. He knew his sports history and would muse and debate about what was happening in any game, the current season, or the latest golf tournament. Bruce loved writing game summaries for his ball hockey league and posted them on his league’s chat site, The Locker Room Forum (ballstarhockey.ca) for his teammates to read. Bruce enjoyed playing cards and was an avid player of 45’s, poker, and most of all, cribbage.
Bruce was a thoughtful, kind and loving son and brother who was cherished by his family and friends, many of whom he had since his school days or while working at McDonalds, and Famous Players in the 1990’s. He loved his family and always enjoyed family gatherings. He was kind, smart, charismatic, thoughtful, outgoing, analytical, and had a witty sense of humour. He could have easily been a writer, journalist, or teacher. Bruce was easy to talk to, eager to help anyone who needed it, and always had a fair solution for any situation, breaking down both sides equally to find the best possible outcome. You would always walk away feeling better, regardless if the outcome was in your favour or not. Bruce was always friendly and welcoming to all, had no pretenses, and just enjoyed being himself.
At the time of his death he was employed with Halifax Transit, Halifax Regional Municipality in Halifax, N.S.
Besides his parents and his sister Karen (Ed) Merlin, he is survived by aunts Judith Hudson, Lorelle Gillis (John) Antigonish and uncle Vernon Hudson (Elizabeth) L’Ardoise, C.B. Aunts Helen Lydon (Floyd), ON, Bernadette VanDuydendyk (Richard) ON, Uncles Fred Bishop (Heather) ON, Bill Bishop, Cal., Bernard Bishop, ON. Step niece Emma Merlin and step grand niece Beatrice, NB.
Predeceased by Grandparents Bruce and Ann Hudson, Fred and Anna Bishop, Uncle Michael Bishop, and cousin Tara Bishop.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Mundle’s Funeral Home, Pugwash, NS.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of Bruce may be made to Heart and stroke foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
