Robert James Henderson January 10, 1940 –December 29, 2022
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Robert (Bob) James Henderson who passed away peacefully at Health Science North on December 29th , 2022. Loving husband to his wife Gloria (Comin) for 61 years and cherished father of Ron (Sandra), Lori Brochu (Gerald) and Kelly Henderson (pre-deceased). Beloved grandfather to Jessica, Lindsay, Andrew, Josay and Corbin and Jordan (predeceased).Beloved great grandfather to Soleil, Violet and Oliver and to many nieces and nephews. Bob was at his happiest when his family was gathered together and in particular at his family home on the French River. Bob is survived by his much loved sister Marjorie (Roger) and brother Victor (Sharon) and predeceased by brothers Larry and Wayne. Bob is also predeceased by his parents Basil and Irene. Bob’s life had three major phases. Coniston, French River and Florida Bob grew up in Coniston where he raised his family and worked as the Town’s Road Superintendent. He was an avid curler and served as President of the Coniston Curling Club for many years, He was a pro at getting grants and funding that allowed the club to flourish. Upon retirement he moved fulltime to his family cottage on the French River. Bob had the largest garden in the area and was known for being an “organic” gardener and having the biggest robust garlic in the land. Every August hundreds of garlic bulbs hung from Bob’s garage for people to marvel at. Bob wintered for 27 years in Florida. He was the pioneer in locating a community in Zephyr Hills Florida called BetMar. Many of his friends followed.The social network down there that still exists today is nothing short of remarkable. Large gatherings happened for any reason whatsoever. Bob loved Florida and cherished his many friends there. Bob Henderson was a guy that left an impression on you. He was full of sayings, full of advice, and full of life. He was loved by many many people and will be sorely missed. A man who lived life as large as Bob deserves a Celebration of Life and one will occur this spring. Bob Henderson, you were simply one of a kind, Many thanks to the nurses and staff at HSN who were just amazing with Bob’s care in the last few weeks of his life. And to Gloria Henderson for being a loving and just as amazing caregiver. Donations to the Alzeimer Society would be much appreciated.
