Margaret Oral Marie Mains July 9 1931September 9 2022

On Friday September 9, 2022 at the age of 91, Oral Mains passed away at the Grace Hospital after suffering for many years from COPD. The Lord kindly chose her to be reunited with her two beloved sons in their eternal resting places. She will now be at peace.
Oral was predeceased by her parents Lorne and Edythe Dunn of Boissevain, MB, her sister Joan Lawson (Jim) of Carman, MB, her brother Beverley Dunn (Betty) of Thunder Bay, ON, her son Craig Mains (Carolyn) of Edmonton, AB, her son Laurie Mains of Victoria, BC, and too many dear friends and family members. Their passing was a deep sorrow for her. She is survived by her sister Berith Mackenzie (Hugh John) of Winnipeg, MB, 4 nieces and nephews, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
A brief marriage in her youth produced her two sons Craig and Laurie and her greatest joy in life was derived from raising and being responsible for them as a single mom. She worked full time at the Manitoba Telephone System for over 30 years, ending in a management position before her retirement.
Oral was born in the small town of Boissevain, MB, and was the second youngest of four children. She enjoyed a caring and loving upbringing in a small town where she began and nurtured many friendships that would last for decades and set the foundation for many long-term friendships during her life. She was furiously independent and witty, a devoted and rock-solid friend, a passionate reader and was obsessed about playing bridge (duplicate at a bridge club or on-line on the computer). Many a night was spent at the Lawson lake home playing bridge in the veranda until the wee hours of the morning. Also, she enjoyed bingo, all card games and games of chance.
Oral started every day with the Winnipeg Free Press crossword puzzle which, if you happened to be visiting, became a team sport. She was also known to phone a friend for help solving the really tough ones for the camaraderie and for the fun.
As per her wishes, no service will be held and her ashes will be placed with her parents in Boissevain, MB. Donations can be made in her honor to a charity of your choice.
Oral wanted to thank the staff and residents of Catherine Place for their kindness and attention during her stay there. She very much appreciated it. The family would also like to thank Oral’s nephew Blair Lawson (Shelly) of Winnipeg, MB, who was like a son to her and was a great help and joy to her as her health declined. Oral looked forward to and cherished her phone chats with her cousin Marilyn Montville (Paul) from Cody, Wyoming and visits from her ‘cousin-in-law’ Lenore Fenton (Tom) from Russell, MB.
Thank you to Bardal’s for all of their help, support and advice during this time of sorrow.
