It is with great sadness the family of Lawrence Douglas Whipple, loving husband of 50 years to Lorna (Mason) Whipple, announce his passing which occurred at home, October 29, 2022, following a brief illness. Born February 5, 1950, in Saint John, to the late Maurice and Ramona (Ferguson) Whipple.
Besides his beloved wife Lorna, he is survived by his children, Jeremy and Tammy (John), his precious granddaughters; Marissa, Avah and Automn, brothers; David (Claudette), Bob (Trina) and Ian (Diane), sisters; Nancy Gaunce (Gordon) and Christine (George) Goss, father-in-law Alan (Gene) Mason, along with a large extended family. He will be missed by his feline friend, Little Buddy.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Bruce (Leah), sister Barb Mowery (Henry) and his nephew Bradley Whipple.
Larry spent his career as a production supervisor with Irving Pulp and Paper. He was a sports fan who always cheered for the Detroit Red Wings. He had consistent luck with various sports pools often finding himself the center of some friendly razzing. He loved to share his enthusiasm for sports and encouraged youth through coaching the Lancaster Minor Hockey Bantom ‘A’ and the SJHS teams with his friend Glennie. He played a weekly game of golf with his life-long friend Doug at the St. George Golf Course and always looked forward to playing golf during his trips to Myrtle Beach. He enjoyed his summer place in Pocologan where he spent many hours on his ATV out on the back trails. Even at the summer place he made lasting friendships, the chipmunks who would come looking for Larry to feed them out of his hand. He was a life member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. Being a life-long westsider he could often be found at the Simms Corner Tim’s catching up with his many friends. He was known for his quick wit and constant teasing. Many of his family know that Larry had his own paint colour ~ Larry Yellow.
Simply put, Larry will be remembered as a kind, generous and giving man.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). The family will receive relatives and friends at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 476 Lancaster Ave, Saint John, on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, from 2-8pm to remember and celebrate Larry’s Life.
