Larry Hunter Thursday December 15th 2022

Hunter, Larry
With his family at his side, Larry left this world from Guelph General Hospital on December 15, 2022 after several months of poor health. Words cannot describe how much Larry will be missed.
Larry grew up on a dairy farm at The Maples in East Garafraxa, attended Orangeville District Secondary School, and earned a degree in political science from Waterloo Lutheran University. Larry and Petra married in 1973 and created a loving home for their two children, Aaron (Jess) and Megan (Ryan). Over 48 years, they lived in several Ontario communities – Stratford, Grand Valley, East Garafraxa, Paris, Fergus, and Guelph – with a brief but memorable stint in Bedford, Nova Scotia, where you can see the water.
Larry took enormous pride in the accomplishments of his children and their own young families in Toronto and Guelph. He was the silliest and sweetest Bobba to his beloved grandchildren, Micki, Rowan, Nolan, and Sam. Larry’s dear brothers, Roy (Jacquie) and Tim (Ann), and their families, together with many loyal friends from the different chapters of his life, will hold him in their hearts and keep his memory alive. Fergus the dog, Larry’s constant companion in recent years, is still looking out the window wondering where he could possibly be.
Larry worked with great energy and focus for many years, building more than one successful business and doing many laps around Canada to share his knowledge and skills. He took excellent care of his clients and employees, putting people at ease and earning their trust. At work and away from work, he put fairness and integrity above all. Only a heart attack and related bypass surgery in 2019 were able to send him into retirement, where he took up reading novels and watching sports on a full-time basis.
Life wasn’t always easy for Larry, but he showed up and persevered, with an unforgettable dry sense of humour and kindness that his family and friends knew they could always count on. Larry delighted in animals (especially of the farm variety) and watching the birds. He loved a good sitcom, music videos on his laptop, ice cream, and a beer with friends. The terrain of grief is uneven, but at this moment, we feel blessed that Larry could leave this life before his suffering became too great.
A private celebration of life will be held in Orangeville at Dods & McNair on December 30, 2022. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Diabetes Canada (D-Camps for diabetic children) or the Terry Fox Foundation, in honour of Larry’s hero.
A tree will be planted in memory of Larry in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. 21st Annual Dedication Service will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
