Obituary
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Kevin Charles Davies of Rosetown, Saskatchewan. Kevin, 70, passed away at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon on the evening of October 3, 2022 of complications from pneumonia, he was surrounded by his cherished wife and loved ones in person and by Zoom.
Kevin Charles Davies was born March 11, 1952 in Medicine Hat, Alberta. He is predeceased by his father Edward Charles “Chuck” Davies, mother Evelyn May Moldowan (nee: Millard), only sister Carol Creed, and twin infant grandchildren Drew and Gracie Jeannotte.
He is survived by his wife Carlota Catamora “Lucy” Davies, his children: Jan (& Mary-Anne) Davies, Paige (& Ryan) Archibald, Chase (& Crystal) Davies, Faith (& Jeffery) Jeannotte, Brooklyn (& Mark) Ellingson, Ariel (& Spencer) Law, and remaining 21 grandchildren, and the mother of his children Jana Hyer McDonald.
Kevin had many chapters in life that provided a variety of adventures. He called Alberta (Red Deer, Athabasca, Lethbridge, Fairview, Slave Lake, Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge, Calgary) and Saskatchewan (Rosetown) home and worked to brighten people’s days in his various positions. He had fond memories of being Santa Clause (sorry kids), ballroom dancing, being a milkman & serving with the Calgary Highlanders, serving as a dog catcher in numerous locations, doing photography and desktop publishing, working at Fairview College and Town Council, Devil’s Coulee Dinosaur museum, renovating a townhouse in Lethbridge, volunteering with Rotary International, and serving the Town of Rosetown.
His faith in the Lord, service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, hosting a variety of exchange students, serving his community, and time with his family were the cornerstones of his life. He served a church mission in Norway (1972-1974) and maintained a love for the foods and flavours from there and internationally. In fact, as children, we all have memories of Dad bringing back beanpies, Timbits and sharing Norwegian “Ski Queen” cheese among other items from his occasional work trips. Still, he found regular time to enjoy movies and shows, including a favourite “The Great Escape”, other wartime classics, even Walt Disney with his children and bowls of popcorn.
No matter what he was doing he had a cheerful disposition and enjoyed being around others. Many will remember his fun demeanor, his laugh, his humor, his smile, his uncanny ability to talk to anyone and his incredibly bald head, which he was sure to make a comment on in addition to finding some familial relation or even a geographic connection to Calgary.
He was willing to attempt to fix anything that needed attention, you could call him a “jack of all trades, master of none”; that served him, his family and others well. While his kids didn’t always love being included on various projects, it gave them good experiences and taught them an invaluable work/service ethic. He had a talent of finding bargains and deals, to find ways to make things work out and to bring up random facts.
Kevin was an example of refocusing his efforts to aim for a fulfilling life; that Christ, family, and positivity are the keys; and to treat people well and to serve where there is a need.
We are forever grateful for the love and support of his dear wife Lucy and the wonderful community Rosetown was to him these many years.
