Joseph Daniel Landry 1938 2022

Obituary of Joseph Daniel Landry
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, papa, and brother Joseph Daniel Landry of Louisdale. Joe died peacefully at home with his loving wife by his side on Thursday March 17th, 2022. Joe was born on Isle Madame to the late Charles & Cecilia (Pettipas) Landry of Poirierville, NS. He moved to Halifax in his younger years but on a visit home met the love of his life Elizabeth and they were married in 1962 and this August would have celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Joe was a man of few words but a man whose actions spoke deeply of the love he had for his family. He was a loving father to his two daughters; Brenda O’Brien and Tanya Landry. His four grandsons Jevan, Adam, Brandon and Connor were the centre of his universe. He spent much time with his daughters and grandsons be it ski-dooing in his younger years with his daughters, fishing with the boys, taking in the winter wood was always a fun chore with the family, family meals were always important and we could always count on Joe to be the first one up to do the dishes especially at the Parish Hall where he was known to be the chief stove cleaner and pots and pans washer. He was a member of the Laborers’ International Union of North America Local 1115. Joe loved going to bingo, scratch tickets, loved watching hockey and baseball (a serious Toronto fan) and loved to spend time at the flea markets with his wife by his side.
Joe is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth Landry, his daughters Brenda (Jeff) O’Brien; their children Jevan (Catherine) O’Brien; Adam (Kiley) O’Brien and Tanya Landry her children Brandon Bungay and Connor Bungay. He is also survived by his sister Dora (Walter) Theriault; sisters in law Jean (Don) Baccardax, Sharon (Wayne) Marchand, Rosalie (Eric) Day, Geralyn Boudreau, and brother in law George McKelvie. He is also survived by Paul (Erleen) Sampson who was like a son to him. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Cecilia, sister Mary Ann McKelvie, brother George Landry and his loving in laws who he adored like his own parents Arthur & Almeda Boudreau and sister in law Catherine Ann Sampson and his best friend Bennie Benoit. Joe had a very special place in his heart for his family, nieces and nephews and his many good friends especially Shirley Benoit and Mary Jane Boudreau.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. The funeral mass will take place on Friday March 25th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Louis Parish Church in Louisdale with Father Duncan MacIssac presiding. Donations in Joe’s memory can be made to Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society or St. Louis Cemetery Committee.
The family is certainly very grateful for the exceptional care provided to Joe from Dr. Collins, Dr. Cooper, Dr. Pahill, his daughter Brenda and the nurses and home care ladies who helped in any way to make his last days filled with comfort and love and to fulfill his wish to die at home. The compassion and care shown through all of you is certainly a testament of the love you have for the work you all do and for that we are truly grateful. Sincerely thank you to Norma at C. H. Boudreau Funeral Home for her help, kindness and professionalism.
