ROBERTSHAW, JAY
With broken hearts, we announce the death of John James “Jay” Robertshaw, who died suddenly of a heart attack on Friday, November 18, 2022.
Jay was the much-loved father of Laurie Lea Robertshaw and her husband, Tim Perkins. Jay loved Laurie Lea more than life itself; she was his “Princess”, his pride and joy, the apple of his eye, the daughter upon whom the sun rose and set in Jay’s eyes. He never hesitated to tell anyone and everyone how proud he was of Laurie Lea and how much he loved her.
Jay will also be sadly missed by his wife, Colleen Robertshaw, his brothers Ric (Janice), Skip (Lilian), and Brooke (Joyce) Robertshaw, and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Darlene and Wilbert Rowntree. He is also survived by several loving and loved nieces and nephews: Alison, Andrew, and Adam (Karissa) Robertshaw, and Derek (Lisa), Carly (Jay Schuit), and Trevor (Meaghan) Rowntree, as well as many dear friends, fellow musicians, bandmates, and golf partners. He is predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Elsie Robertshaw.
Jay was “the Piano Man”, a musician, singer and keyboard player extraordinaire and the ultimate Beatles fan, long retired from a 25 year stint at Stelco, after which he turned his hand to perfecting his golf game (with, shall we say, mixed results). Jay will be loved and remembered long after his time on this mortal coil – as a good man, a great person, a wonderful father, a loyal friend and a talented musician.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to M.A. Clark Funeral Home, 567 Upper Wellington Street, Hamilton, where visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 22 from 6 – 8 p.m., and the funeral service on Wednesday, November 23 at 2 p.m. Cremation will follow at a later date in accordance with Jay’s wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice will be appreciated by the family.
