Obituary of Ivan John March
We are saddened to announce that Ivan J. March, lover of jokes and grandchildren, maker of lists,
lifelong Coronation Street watcher, family crossword puzzle champion, devourer of crime novels and
anything sweet, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2022, at the CNHCC in Grand Falls Windsor,
NL.
Ivan, the oldest of three children, grew up in Peter’s Arm, Botwood. He is predeceased by his father,
Stanley March, his mother, Marion March nee Stuckless and his brother-in- law, Henry Rempel. He is
survived by his loyal brother and best friend, Bruce, and his beloved baby sister, Bonnie Rempel, as well
as his three children. Sons, Richard (Susan Mitchell) and Jason (Anna Velissariou) and his favorite
daughter, Beverly (Clint Collins). His darling grandchildren will miss him greatly, Joshua, Danielle, Jane,
Jack, Nickolas and Matthias, and his great-grandchildren, who Pop-Pop loved dearly, Nathan, Sierra,
Poppy and Stanley. Along with nieces and nephews and their children, who Uncle Ivan always
remembered to send birthday and Christmas cards to.
After trudging through 10 feet of snow to get to the Salvation Army elementary school as a small child,
he graduated from Botwood Senior High. He worked at Spot Cash as a teenager and later moved to
Gander to work for Gus Winter Ltd. He went to flight school for a time in the 60s and made lifelong
friends who, to this day, fondly refer to him as Gus or Gussie. He later worked for Howard Sheppard Ltd
in Botwood and travelled the province of Newfoundland, collecting friends everywhere he went. He was
particularly fond of people who could fix cars or shared his love of cars and spent many days hanging out
with friends who spoke “car”. Ivan sold vehicles for many years, starting out at Riverview Chev-Olds in
GFW in the 80s, many people will remember him for his big easy smile and genuine interest in their
lives.
Ivan leaves to mourn many close friends and relatives who we won’t start to name for fear of forgetting
someone important, which he never did. Although it was his big heart that finally gave out on him, he
fought a long hard battle with his kidneys the past 7 years and we would be remiss to leave out his
beloved dialysis nurses from the CNHCC unit who cared for him and took our calls and fussed and
fawned over one of their favorite patients. We will be eternally grateful for their love and care.
Cremation has taken place, as per Dad’s wishes, and a service will be held in his honor at Hoskins Funeral
Home in Botwood.
Visitation to be held at Hoskins Funeral Home in Botwood , all are welcomed
