On Saturday, August 20, 2022, Mrs. Hope Loraine Gabriel Bennett, beloved wife of Leopold Bennett of Calgary, Alberta passed away suddenly at the age of 76 years.
Hope was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick to Marion and Walter Gabriel and a proud member of St. Mary’s First Nation. Hope was also a very proud mother of three children. She found and married the love of her life, Leopold, in 1983. Hope worked several jobs in the service industry and she found her calling working at the Forest Grove Care Centre until her retirement in 2011. Hope loved spending time out in nature, especially in the mountains. Cutting firewood was always an adventure for her. Family was very important to her, and her passion was spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other family. Hope also loved being with her neighbors.
Besides her loving husband Leopold of 42 years, Hope is survived by her children Walter Christie, Sherry Christie (Cindy), Toni Christie (Rod), stepson Jeremy Areago (Suzy) all of Calgary; six grandchildren Nicole Christie (Nigel) of Calgary, Natasha Christie of Calgary, Tyler Scott (Tori) of Battleford, Saskatchewan, Emma Areago of Calgary, Logan Areago of Calgary, Weslee Areago of Calgary; five great grandchildren; three siblings Tony Gabriel (Cindy), Christine Gabriel, Betty Leon all of Fredericton, New Brunswick; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Hope is predeceased by her parents Marion and Walter Gabriel; and sisters Lillian Kocsis, Donna Aucoin, and Joanne Gabriel.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 29, 2022 from Pierson’s Funeral Chapel, 4121 – 17 Avenue SE, Calgary. This service will be livestreamed through this link.
