FISHER – Oliver Benjamin “Benny”, 82, of Southwest Port Mouton, Queens County, passed away peacefully at home on August 18, 2022.
Born in Southwest Port Mouton, Benny was son of the late Victor and Pearle Fisher.
Benny enjoyed hunting in his younger years as well as going for many drives and spent much time on Summerville Beach. He worked at C. W. MacLeod’s Fisheries where he bought lobsters for the company and won a blue ribbon for the fastest man to split fish. Later, he was hired by Mosher and Rawding as a crane operator and helped build the TMP plant at Bowater Mersey Paper Company in Brooklyn. Most of all, since his retirement, Benny loved to spend time with his family.
Besides his wife of 62 years, Miriam (Wagner), Benny is survived by his sons Gilbert, Peter (Rosemary), Alan (Anne Marie) and daughters Annette (Ricky), Shauna (Ian), Linda (Tracy) and Lois (Barry). He loved his grandchildren Chris and Dwayne, Tina, Tanya and Melissa, Damon and Kayla, Hailey, Jaren and Justin, Jessica and Nolan and his great grandchildren Jaden, Jacob, Nate, Emmett and Kinsley, Makalya, Kera, Leigha and Jenna, Ethan, Oliver and Chase.
At Benny’s request, his body was donated to science. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations in Benny’s memory may be made to the the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Kidney Foundation. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com.
