Erna (nee Newman) Paris – Passed away at her home on February 3, 2022, at the age of 83, surrounded by love. Beloved wife to Thomas Robinson and mother to Michelle Paris and Roland Paris (Katie Paris), grandmother to Julia, Simon and Jacqueline, sister to Peter Newman (Rene Bouthot) and Jill Solnicki, she is also mourned by her nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Author of seven books and winner of numerous awards, including the Order of Canada, she devoted her writing life to understanding what sustains pluralistic, tolerant societies, and why they sometimes succumb to intolerance-or worse. These investigations fuelled her lifelong commitment to justice, historical accountability, and the protection of vulnerable communities wherever they may be. But her greatest commitment was always to her family and friends. She was fiercely loyal and loving, interested in everything and everyone, and cynical about nothing. In memory of Erna Paris’ life, her family asks that any charitable donations be made to Human Rights Watch Canada, 416-322- 8448, or to The Writers’ Union of Canada, 416-703-8982.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Erna Paris Thursday February 03 2022..

Sometimes in December 2021, I came across Erna Paris book titled “Long Shadows: Truth, Lies and History” and i was fascinated with the issues she addressed in the book, when i stared reading, i decided to check up her biography online and i was shocked that she has passed on the 3rd of February 2022 and today is the 19th of February 2022. I was really sad because i didn’t have the opportunity of meeting her and the fact that humanity has lost a courageous woman with great intellect and soul. However, i console myself that i’ve met her through the pages of her eternal book. May her excellent legacy never perish from the earth. Rest in Peace, Erna Paris!
