Eleanor Ann Honi Pickell 1947 2022

Obituary of Eleanor Ann Pickell
Eleanor Ann “Honi” (Walls) Pickell, of Peterborough, Ontario.
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Eleanor on Friday, August 12th, 2022 at the age of 75.
Eleanor was born in Montreal in 1947; and grew up in Bowmanville, Ontario for most of her childhood. She attended the Toronto Davenport School of Nursing in her early years. She worked for many years as a nurse in both Toronto Sick Kids Hospital and Oshawa General Hospital. In 1974 she married her husband Ron and then became the loving mother of Anne and Heather. After having her daughters, Eleanor worked for many years with medically fragile children in the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board as a medical Educational Assistant. Eleanor was extremely accomplished in many areas, but always felt most comfortable volunteering and helping others. After her retirement, Eleanor spent her time volunteering at the Peterborough Humane Society, and with various charities that helped animals and wildlife.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 48 years, William “Ron” Pickell; Loving mother of Anne (John); and Heather (Todd). Remembered by her dear sister Aileen (Bill) Hockett and brother Bill (Judy) Walls. Preceded in death by her parents Russell and Anna Walls. “Honi” is fondly remembered by her step grandchildren Ethan, Sawyer, and Olivia; along with her loving Sister and Brother-in-laws, numerous nieces and nephews and caring friends. Eleanor’s cherished animals Bobbie, Tommy, Charlie, and Kaleigh miss her greatly and are now in the loving care of Anne and her family.
A celebration of Eleanor’s life will be held on Sunday September 18th, 2022, 1-4 pm at Northview Gardens outdoor venue in Selwyn, Ontario.
Eleanor’s love touched many lives. Thank you to Aunt Aileen and Uncle Bill for being on-call 24/7 for any support needed surrounding Eleanor and her care. The family would like to express special thanks to Eleanor’s dedicated health care team for the love and care each of you showed Eleanor. The closest members of her medical team consisted of around 35 Nurses and PSW’s that lovingly cared for Eleanor around the clock. Each of you are very much a part of our family. Eleanor had a very special bond and relationship with each and every one of you. You experienced the real and true genuine side of who Eleanor was. She was so thankful for everything each of you did for her. Seeing you come through the door each visit was the highlight of her day. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for showing her so much love.
If desired, memorial contributions in Eleanor’s memory can be made to The Peterborough Humane Society or Woodlands Wildlife Sanctuary in Minden. Eleanor loved all animals and was for many years involved in their care through these two charitable organizations. The ALS Society of Canada is also close to our hearts as this is a disease that no one should ever have to endure.
