Passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Ottawa Hospital General Campus on 06 December 2022, in his 81st year. He was the beloved husband of Diana for 59 years and loving father of Jeffrey (Denis Bastien) and David (Robert Tritt). Dear son of the late Calvin and Jean Stimson. Dear brother of Darrel, Douglas, James (Janet), and his late sister Cheri. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to gather at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, 154, Somerset Street West on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 1pm.
Born in Ortonville, Minnesota, Dennis grew up in Saskatchewan and Alberta. He enlisted as an Aircraftsman 2nd Class in 1961 and progressed through the ranks to Warrant Officer. He was commissioned from the ranks as 2nd Lieutenant, Communications & Electronics Engineering, and retired as Captain in 1995. During his service he was posted throughout Canada and twice to Germany.
Following his retirement from the military he worked for Lee Valley Tools in Ottawa for 14 years.
He was a founding member of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) Ottawa and a president of PFLAG Canada. Dennis was proud to have made a presentation to the Parliamentary Committee prior to the legalization of equal marriage. He also enjoyed working with EGALE, the Lambda Foundation, and local LGBT choirs.
