Christopher Houston
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Christopher Houston, age 91. Loving husband of Rita (nee Murphy; pre-deceased); father of Joan (Mike), Jennifer, and Jacqueline (Doug); brother to Thomas, Betty, and Jim; grandfather to Peter, Meg, Adam, John, Thomas, Tyler, and Katelyn-Grace.
Chris was born in Belfast, Ireland in 1931, living through the Great Depression and the Bombing of Belfast in 1940. His family was evacuated to the countryside for the remainder of the war. After the war, he received his apprenticeship from Sirocco Motorworks. Like many of his generation, he immigrated to Canada in the 1950’s and it is there that he met the love of his life, Rita Murphy. The two were inseparable and were blessed with three daughters.
Chris loved the outdoors, traveling, and spending time with his family. After working at various construction jobs, including the Eaton Centre, TD and Scotiabank buildings, he retired to their cottage in Cloyne, where he enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He will be greatly missed.
