November 21, 1951 – October 22, 2022
It is with broken hearts and profound sadness that the family of Charles Francis More announces his sudden passing on Saturday October 22, 2022 at Sudbury at the age of 70.
Charles was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Ann More and his sisters Maryanne More and Carol More. He is survived by 3 siblings, Tom More (Judy deceased), Theresa Burd (Pat) and Joe More. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Charles (Chuck) was a life-long resident of Sudbury and grew up in the west end of the city. He was a graduate of St. Charles College and Laurentian University.
Charles worked at the LCBO from 1973 to 2012 when he retired with 39 years of service. During those years he worked at many of the LCBO stores throughout the city and area and managed the summer seasonal store at Lake Penache during the early 1990’s. He is most noted and remembered as the joyful and pleasant manager of the LCBO store in Copper Cliff from 1995 until his retirement in 2012.
Charles was a dedicated, enthusiastic and highly respected leader in the business and function of the unions, the Ontario Liquor Board Employees Union (OLBEU) and the Liquor Board Employees Division (LBED) of OPSEU that represents the employees of the LCBO in Northern Ontario. He was President and Chief Steward of the OLBEU from the mid 1980’s to 2005 and also sat on the union’s Board of Directors. He continued his tenure as President and Chief Steward of local 681 of the LBED of OPSEU from 2005 until his retirement in 2012. During his 3 decades of union activity he was involved in the completion of more than 9 collective bargaining agreements.
Chuck was a very generous, kind-hearted, genuine, caring and fun-loving person. He put a very high value on life-long friendship especially with those he grew up with. He gave a high priority to always keeping in close contact with the friends of his youth and his school days .He would totally involve himself in planning and holding of annual events (hunting, fishing, camping, cottage life, golfing, etc) that always included his life-long buddies. He especially valued his times at his brother’s cottage, particularly during his retirement. He loved being involved in the never ending projects and duties that cottage life requires. He kept the sauna hot, the BBQ grilling and the fun times going. We all agreed that it was a great advantage in having an LCBO “consultant” on hand to keep us informed on the recommended beverages.
Chuck’s outlook on his time spent with us can best be expressed as:
“LIFE IS NOT A JOUNEY TO THE GRAVE WITH THE INTENTION OF ARRIVING SAFELY, IN A PRETTY, AND WELL PRESERVED BODY, BUT RATHER, TO SKID IN BROADSIDE, THOUROUGHLY USED UP, TOTALLY WORN OUT, AND LOUDLY PROCLAIMIMG;
WOW, WHAT A RIDE!!!
Chuck, you will always be remembered and in our hearts. REST IN PEACE.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Sudbury Park Lawn Cremation Service. A celebration of life is planned and will be held at a later date.
Donations can be made in Charles’s memory to the Sudbury Food Bank or the Sudbury Samaritan Centre.
