Sadly, predeceased by – in Betty’s words her precious great grandson Kobi Hunsberger Kalil.
She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Growing up on a dairy farm with 9 siblings she learned the importance of hard work and caring for others. She would continue to uphold these values as she and Wallace raised their family on their own dairy farm. She loved gardening; every spring she planted a large vegetable garden. Though this would be a big job each year she knew the work was worth it. All winter long, Wallace and her children greatly appreciated the fruits of her labour: yummy preserves, fruit sauces, catsup, and pickles were never in short supply at the supper table.
She was always creative and delighted in flowers and visiting birds. Planning and caring for her colourful flowerbeds gave her so much pleasure, a love which she passed down to her daughters. Considering her love of gardening, it is not surprising that she was quite serious about how her front lawn was mowed; when she could no longer push the mower herself, no one – not even Wallace – could do it quite the right way.
Betty loved babies; her smile was always widest if she was holding a little one. As her family grew with grandchildren and great grandchildren, she was always eager to hear about the many things everyone was “up to” and busy doing. In her final days she said what she would miss the most was hearing about how everyone was keeping busy once she would leave us to go to heaven. She knew that with her gone we would still be ”busy, busy,” even if she had told us to “not work too hard.”
Friends and family will be received at Steinmann Mennonite Church, 1316 Snyders Road E, Baden for visitation on Thursday, March 31st, 2022, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place at Steinmann Mennonite Church on Friday, April 1st, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Steinmann Mennonite Church Cemetery.
