Betty Lou Taylor 1937 2022

Betty Lou Taylor – 84, Valley, passed away
peacefully on Friday evening, August 19, 2022, at home. Born in Salmon
River, she was a daughter of the late Perley and Helen (McKay)
McNutt. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her
best friend and loving husband, Bob (2021); brother, Keith;
mother-in-law, Melba Barrett; very good friend, Midgie
Lynds.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Beverley McCabe (Garth);
sons, Wade Taylor (Donna Stewart) and Peter Taylor (Nancy Ripley). She
was a Proud Nanny to Jennifer McCabe (Kenroy O’Neil),
Allison Johnson (Brian), Sarah Taylor (Chris Martin), Matthew Taylor,
Jessica Warwick (Steven), Brandon Taylor (Chris Sutherland) and Great
Nanny to her precious grandchildren, Molly Johnson, Emma Johnson,
Rylie Warwick, Mateo O’Neil and Cameron Warwick. She is also
survived by her brother, Donnie McNutt (Hope); sister, Myrtle Carter
(Victor); many nieces and nephews.
Betty loved her family deeply and enjoyed spending time with
her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a caring and
influential person in the lives of all her children, grandchildren and
great grandchildren. Large and small family gatherings were a special
time for Betty. Betty wanted the best for her family and friends, and
she would fiercely fight for them in their time of need. She will be
greatly missed by all who knew her.
Betty was a very social lady who loved being surrounded by
family, friends and new acquaintances. She also loved connecting and
conversing with old friends and new, enjoying many lifelong
friendships that lasted more than 60 years. Betty’s mission
in life was to help other people, whether that was finding a rental
for a friend in Florida or Nova Scotia, listening to the concerns of a
grandchild, finding some furniture or helping buy or sell a house
– Betty was ready, willing and able to
help.
Betty was also a wealth of knowledge about what was going on
with the wide circle of people around her. If one of her children
wanted an update on someone they went to school with, Mom had the
details. If you needed a date when something happened, Betty had the
information. If you wanted to know what was going on within the
extended family, Betty knew the answers.
Bob and Betty made 26 trips to Florida and they loved
spending winters in the warmer climate where they made many new
friends from across the United States and Canada, as well as
frequently connecting with their many friends from NS that were also
in Florida. There was always another restaurant to check out, another
yard sale to go to, and more bargain hunting at the shopping malls and
stores in Florida.
Betty was famous for her love of yard sales. She loved to
both hold and yard sale and visit others to find the best
deals.
Betty was a long-time member of Salmon River Fire Brigade
Ladies Auxiliary. Her first job was with Cockshutt Farm Equipment, and
after raising her family she returned to work at Simms Fin, Fur and
Feather, Metropolitan Store and Truro
Raceway.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sarbjit Singh for all the
great care and dedication to Mom. Because of his compassion and
attention to her health, we were able to spend an additional 22 months
with her. Thank you also to her caregiver, Laura who was also such a
great friend to Betty.
