It is with great regret that the family of Barbara Ann Oviatt (nee Polchies) announces her passing on October 23, 2022, a day after her 74th birthday.
She is survived by her loving family including husband Robert (Bob) Oviatt, her daughter Laura Ann McKay (Richard), her son Wendell Marston, her grandchildren Andrew, Julia, Mara, Everest, Eden, Gracie, Alicia, Samantha, Natasha, and Lana and her great-grandchildren Oliver, Piper, Isla, Madden, Andi, Palmer, Harley, Hazel, Lior, Andrew, Jensen, Kove and Norah.
She is also survived by her brothers Mo Polchies (Cindy), Pepper Polchies and Dean Polchies (Tracey), her sisters Lizz Meloney (Bruce), Sally Polchies, and Valerie Chisholm, her sister-in-law Marge Polchies and her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Barb is predeceased by her son Michael Marston, her parents Oliver and Marie Polchies, her brothers Ronald Polchies, Theodore Polchies and Howard Polchies and sisters Annette Poole and Anne Marie Nicholas.
Barb was a beloved and proud member of the Woodstock First Nation. She was a survivor of the Indian Day Schools, and spent her life living on or near the reserve. She raised her three children in Woodstock
Barb found the love of her life when she met Bob Oviatt. She and “her Bob” shared many happy memories together.
Barb had many different jobs in her lifetime, including as a hairdresser at the Marvelle Beauty Salon. Her most impactful work was as a Native Education Worker where she worked hard to create a positive and safe learning environment and was a huge support to all her students. In her retirement she made beautiful beadwork and paintings.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at 10:00 am from St. Gertrude’s Church, Woodstock, NB with Father Martin Arputham officiating. Interment and Burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery.
