Obituary
On January 29th, 2022, Allan Purdy, well known trapper of Red Earth, resident of Athabasca, passed away suddenly at the age of 79 years.
Allan was born on Dec 3rd, 1942 in Edmonton, Alberta to Mary and Bill Purdy. He pursued his life’s purpose and passion of being a Trapper at the young age of 12.
He is survived by his children: M. Cynthia Koss of St. Paul and Chris David Purdy of Whitehorse; grandchildren: Myshannah Koss (Sean Dolan), Dorian Koss, and Ezekiel Purdy; great-grandchildren: Abigail and Finn Dolan; brothers Arthur Purdy (Marie) and Ken (Gayle); sister: Carol Yowney; numerous nieces and nephews; aunts: Alma Butters and Maureen Webber; and his Alberta Trappers Association family.
Allan was predeceased by his parents: Mary and Bill Purdy; son: Christopher Henry Purdy; sister-in-law: Shirley Purdy; and brother-in-law: Peter Yowney.
Allan made his home in the Athabasca area. He lived his life authentically and became a legend in the trapping industry, well known for his log cabin building skills. On Sundays, he enjoyed listening to CFCW Pete Hicks Country Classics and writing letters. He had a love for fishing, hunting, berry picking, and sharing stories. All his life skills were self-taught and he enjoyed teaching young people about trapping and the wilderness. For many years he spent handwriting his life story and recently put it to print. He was a guest speaker at many ATA events, also featured in Trapping Inc. TV series and on The Scuttlebutt podcast. A celebration of his life was held at the Aspen View Christian Fellowship in Athabasca, and he was laid to rest at the Ferguson Cemetery.
