Obituary of William Francis Murphy
William (Bill) Murphy (August 8th, 1940 – September 7th, 2021) passed away suddenly at the Maple Ridge Hospital surrounded by his family.
Bill was born in St. John’s NFLD & Labrador, in 1940. He moved to New York and graduated with a degree in Education. He returned to NFLD & Labrador and began his career as a teacher. He soon met his wife Doris and had one daughter Lisa. Over the years he continued his teaching in Pleasant Hill, Calif, Fort St. John, B.C. and retired in Port Coquitlam, B.C. He really enjoyed teaching and coaching various sports at the Gr. 7/8 level. He had a great love of most sports especially golf, fishing, hockey and baseball.
Most of his early retirement years were spent doing some travelling, some golfing and fishing. He enjoyed reading, doing puzzles and he loved playing cards with his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren playing Barbies, telling & reading stories, going camping and later on going to their sports activities, piano & dance recitals too.
He celebrated 56 years of marriage this July. He was very proud to attend the wedding of his eldest granddaughter Shannon to Matt Hatina also this past July.
Bill is survived by his loving family, wife Doris, daughter Lisa (Bill Warner) and grandchildren Evan, Shannon (Matt Hatina), Jenelle, Gillian and Aleyna. Also by his brothers Kevin (Audrey), Frank (Beatrice), Joseph (Catherine), Michael and David and his sisters Gertrude and Joan (Doug) and many nieces and nephews.
Bill is predeceased by his parents William and Florence Ann and his brother Don and sister Mary.
Bill will be remembered for his kindness and friendliness. He never said an unkind word about or against anyone. Most of all, he will be remembered for the great love he had for his family.
Special thanks to Dr. Hughes and the ICU staff at the Maple Ridge Hospital for their care and compassion after his sudden and brief illness.
