Walter Francis (Frank) Lander
April 2nd, 1931 ~ April 26th, 2021
We, the siblings of Frank Lander are sorry to announce his death from double pneumonia in the wee hours of April 26th, 2021. Frank and his family had lived in Sherwood Park, AB for many years and he died in a nearby hospital. His older daughter Louise and her daughter Chrystal were able to visit him the previous evening.
Frank was the first born of eight children to Vern Lander and Alice (nee Nelson) of Oakville, MB. He was named for both grandfathers, Walter Nelson and Frank Lander.
He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Fern, two daughters; Louise (Dean) Moren and their daughter Chrystal Inversarity and her son Hunter, Louise’s son James of Ft. Saskatchewan and daughter Joan Lander of Prince Albert, SK. Also surviving are sisters; Doreen Hart of Portage la Prairie, Verna Colins of Battleford, SK, Shirley Galbraith of Prince Albert, SK, and Sandra (Fred) Tait of Rossendale, MB, brother Ted (Ed) Lander and Denise Wales of Caroline, AB, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins, and sister-in-law Marguerite of Edmonton.
Frank was predeceased by his parents and grandparents, youngest brother Kerry in 2001 and second brother Keith in 2001, brother-in-law Jim Hart, in-laws; the Laidlers of Poplar Point, Ben & Evelyn Nelson, Opal and Russell Taylor, and Roman.
Frank ended his career as a diesel mechanic working on Mack Trucks. After Dad died in 1949, Frank and Ted carried on the butchering business on the farm just of north of Oakville School. Frank had worked for the telephone company, Joe Henderson, and the Municipality as a machine operator. He owned a turn-a-dozer and cleared some land east of Portage for nursery operations.
Frank had a very good memory and loved telling stories about hunting and fishing. His hobbies were gardening, doing jigsaw puzzles, along with reading. Frank’s ashes are to be scattered by his favourite lake.
