It is with broken hearts we announce the death of Deborah Lynn Armstrong, loving wife of Stephen Tayes, which occurred February 5th at Bobby’s Hospice, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Deborah was the daughter of the late Lillian Phyllis (Hickman) and Raymond Earle Armstrong.
Deborah was born in 1957, she graduated Valedictorian of Saint John Vocational School (1975). She also received the Governor Generals Academic Medal. Deb attended the University of New Brunswick in Saint John (Bachelor of Business Administration degree, 1979) and later the University of Toronto (Masters in Industrial Relations, 1985).
Deb was a leader, mentor and advisor whose smart and witty mind challenged and opened the minds of others. She was a Professor and educator to all her students at UNBSJ including the esteemed MBA program. Her professional career expanded past her academia life. She was a founder of the first Human Resources Association and Accreditation Program for Human Resource Professionals in New Brunswick. Deb was also a strategic Human Resources partner with the City of Saint John and Town of Quispamsis, and the owner of her own Human Resources Consulting firm supporting initiatives of local and international organization.
Deb’s incredible love for life and family will be deeply missed by the love of her life, husband, Stephen Tayes; cherished dog, Max; stepsons, Greg Tayes (Melissa) and Colin Tayes (Matina); grandchildren, Walker, Carson, Liam, Jacob and Clair; eight plus 1 brothers and sisters, Sandra Gibbons (Chuck), Richard Armstrong (Lynda), Wayne Armstrong (Judy), Christina Donner (Robert), Pamela Bonar (Gerard), Judith Wilkins (Stephen), Phillip Armstrong (Janice), Karen Fox (David) and Susan Mason McConnell; father and mother-in-law, John and Eleanor Tayes; brothers and sisters-in-law, Murray Tayes (Margaret), Blair Tayes (Susan Brown) and Brenda Todd (Barry); uncle, Skip (Edward) Lingley (Nancy); aunt, Francis Lingley (Howe); along with nieces and nephews, Dean Gibbons, Tammy Gaudet (Stephen), Scott Armstrong (Jennifer), Trevor Armstrong, Greg Armstrong (Tammy), Tammy Armstrong (Crabbe), Trisha Holt (Karl), Emily Donner, Matthew Donner, Evan Donner (Regan), Jason Bonar, Jennifer Bonar, Ashley Jodrey (Ryan), Craig Wilkins (Edward), Michael Armstrong (Holly), Melanie Extell (Kyle), Melissa Tayes (Andy), Amanda ton (John), Robyn Noles (Matt), Sarah Beth Jose (Mateo); as well as many grandnieces, grandnephews and friends.
Deb was predeceased by parents, Lillian Phyllis (Hickman) in 2007 and Raymond Earle Armstrong in 2009; as well as nephew, Geoffrey Brian George Armstrong (Tammy) 2017 and uncle, Robert Lingley (Francis) 2019.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the loving hands of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Bobby’s Hospice, Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue or to The Joshua Group.
