The family announces with sadness his passing in Sudbury on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at the age of 95. Husband of 73 years to Rita (née Beaudry, predeceased August 2, 2021). Son of the late Wilfrid and the late Anita (née Rhéaume). Dear father of Raymonde, Bernard (Nancy), Donald (Sylvie), Denise (Brian) (late Ronald), Nicole (Dale), Gisèle (late Timothy), Gabriel (Anne), Jean-Claude (Louise) and Michelle (Dan) and pre-deceased infant son. Dear brother of Lionel (late Claudette), René (Aline) and Dolores. Predeceased by his brother Lucien (late Marie-Jeanne), Jean Paul (late Fernande) and by his sisters Laurence (late Rodolphe) and Lucille (late Hector). Sadly missed by 19 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Sylvio worked at Falconbridge Nickel Mines for 30 years and also farmed vegetables and potatoes for 35 years with his wife Rita on the family farm. He volunteered many years for the Chelmsford Jr “A” Canadiens Booster Club and on various community events and was a community member on the Board of Directors for the Chelmsford Caisse Populaire for 20 years. A strong and loyal Liberal supporter who dedicated valuable time to the Liberal Party, campaigning the Nickel Belt riding. You could also find him watching his sons, then his grandsons play hockey. After a quick recap of the game, they would soon find out which moves needed improvement.
The family would like to thank all the nurses, PSWs and staff at Extendicare Falconbridge who were involved in his care for their compassion and empathy. In keeping with his wishes there will be no visitation or service. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date in the Chelmsford Cemetery. Donations can be made by cheque or online to the Alzheimer’s Society, The Health Bistro Day Program or the Canadian Cancer Society. www.cooperativefuneralhome.ca
