Sheila Darlaine Cowie nee Tomlinson March 11th 1949 February 25th 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of Sheila Darlaine Cowie (née Tomlinson) announces her passing on February 25th, 2021 in Vancouver at the age of 71. Predeceased by her dear husband Fraser, parents Duncan and Edith Tomlinson, and brother Milton (RuthAnn), she will be lovingly remembered by her brother Wayne, son Ryan (Claire), daughter Katherine, and sister-in-law Marsha.
Sheila was born in Perth-Andover, New Brunswick where she grew up enjoying ice skating, hunting with her father, and fishing with her brother Milton. After graduating from nursing school, she spent time working in Hearst, Ontario before driving her red Challenger across country to Vancouver with her dear friend Jackie to work at VGH. After meeting on a blind date, she went on to spend the next 40 years married to her partner in crime Fraser, where they raised two children and built a warm and welcoming home. She supported Fraser’s business efforts by being the “hostess with the mostess”, holding countless parties, events, and dinners, always impeccably dressed and serving her incredible cooking. Parallel to being a devoted wife and mother, Sheila would also stay up late working for the business and being a dedicated volunteer with Arts Umbrella Dance where she made significant contributions.
Later in life, Sheila and Fraser spent more time taking extended RV trips across the continent to visit family, or down to Mexico. They also started travelling more, using their daughter’s touring as an excuse to visit Europe or different parts of the US and Canada, always being the life of the party as they both greatly enjoyed socializing and meeting new people.
Sheila was a loving, genuine, and dedicated friend with a fearless and feisty personality. She led her life with principles of tact, kindness, and always with an open heart. She was an enthusiastic gardener and had a “colourful” relationship with golf. She greatly enjoyed being in Palm Desert where she would welcome many visitors, enjoy the wonderful community of friends, or host one of her famous Fun Hat parties.
Due to pandemic restrictions, the family will be holding a private memorial service at Kearney’s Funeral Services which will be live-streamed on Friday, March 19th at 1pm PST.
