Ruth Northcut was born on the prairies and though she lived for many years in Chilliwack, British Columbia, her heart was always in Alberta. A devout Christian, Ruth led by example when it came for caring for others, including her children Amber and Charlene, and her grandchildren, Jayde, Brayden and Daniel. She had a notorious sweet tooth, an even more notorious love for cats with attitude, which she delighted in teasing, and had the hand scars to prove it.
Even though she had done everything from finance, to school office administration, to owning her own business, the simple pleasures of a garden and a cup of coffee in the sunshine were often what she liked best. She was an incredibly strong women who endured a number of trials including the loss of her husband, and her brothers and sister, but devoutly held to her faith and her family.
Like the wildflowers she loved so much, she was resilient, tenacious and brought joy to anyone who spent time with her. Ruth was loved greatly, as a mother, grandmother, “auntie “and friend. We, the family she left behind, will continue to mourn her, while she returns to the loving embrace of the family that went ahead. In the meantime, we will seek comfort in one of her favorite devotions, the Prayer of Saint Francis.
Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
