18 décembre 2021
Roy Maftey Fedoruk, age 81, passed away peacefully on December 18th, 2021 at Trillium Health Partners, Mississauga Hospital. He was born on May 2nd, 1940 in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, the only child to Mike and Mary Fedoruk. Roy is survived by his loving wife of over 52 years, Amelia, his children, Daria (John) and Michael (Teresa) and grandchildren, Marisa, Anthony, Sofia & Simona.
Roy graduated with a Professional Engineering designation from Ryerson University, Toronto, as a Mechanical Engineer. His passion in this field extended well into his 70s, where he travelled the world, designing wind tunnels and consulting on several projects with DSMA and AIOLOS Engineering. As instrumental as he was on large company endeavours, he still insisted on taking public transit to work up until his retirement.
One of Roy’s most beloved past times was teaching; he tutored all his grandchildren in math up until his final weeks; he was gifted with explaining mathematical equations in the most simplified terms for the youngest to understand. Roy was fascinated by astronomy and always welcomed a grand tour of the night sky; eager to share and educate on the relevance of the Tropics of Capricorn and Cancer and the importance of the sun’s positioning in relation to the other stars and constellations (in a nutshell).
Roy loved travelling and cruising with his wife and exploring innumerable cultures and cuisines; but truly cherished quiet evenings and sharing a glass of wine (or two) with Mamie on his front porch. He enjoyed playing euchre, chess and bocci ball and loved backyard BBQs, where on cool evenings he would generously offer his collection of flannel shirts to any guest who needed some additional warmth; family crowded kitchen tables was also at the top of his list of things he enjoyed most.
Roy will be remembered for his teasing jokes, his unfailing work ethic, his patience, and unwavering devotion to his family. He was always accommodating, gentle and kind in nature, avoiding the spotlight except for the occasional “judo roll” at family weddings. He loved listening to Barbara Streisand and Neil Diamond and was always ready for a good polka.
With his Parkinson’s Disease diagnosis in his later years, Roy never complained and was always thankful for what he had in his life. He found great meaning in his volunteer work at Trillium Hospital, his generosity and warmth always brought a smile to staff and patients he assisted.
The family would like to thank Trillium Hospital – ICU department, for its thoughtful and tender care of Roy over the last few weeks. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his family and he will be greatly missed by those around him.
A private ceremony is being held on Wednesday, December 22nd for immediate family, with a Celebration of Roy’s Life taking place in 2022 (details will be provided to extended family and friends at a later time).
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider a donation to Parkinson’s Canada, www.parkinson.ca
