Rose Mattina Saturday January 16th 2021

Rose Mattina (nee Hapak)
It is with profound sadness and deep gratitude for a life well lived that the family of Rose Mattina (nee Hapak) announce her peaceful passing at Shalom Manor Grimsby on Saturday January 16th, 2021 in her 98th year. As the matriarch of our family our devoted mother is now reunited with her cherished husband the late James (Jimmy) Mattina (March 7, 1979) and her parents the late Lawrence and Eleonora Hapak. She will be forever loved by her children Brenda and Andrew Hamilton, Rosanne and Frank Lasowski and Joe Mattina. Rose was the beloved sister and sister-in-law of Zenon (Ted) (predeceased) and Kay Hapak and Bernice Bovaird and Cec (predeceased). She was predeceased by an infant sister Sophia. Babci’s (Our Grandmother’s) legacy of love and devotion was shared with her grandchildren whom she cherished to the moon and back. She was so proud of all of their accomplishments and the beautiful lives they created: Andrea and Michael Pircio, Dr. Frances Lasowski and Kyle Lake, Joseph and Laura Lasowski, Olivia Lasowski and Dean Arnill, Dr. Katie Mattina and Connor Shaw, Dr. James Mattina, Cory Mattina and Danielle Pine. She took great delight and interest in her great grandchildren and enjoyed her precious time together with them; Jonathan and Angelina Pircio, Charlee and Oaklyn Lake, and Thomas, Violet and Baby Girl Lasowski due in March.
Rose was predeceased by her father and mother-in-law Giuseppe and Antonietta Mattina. She will be forever remembered by her brothers and sisters-in-law; Charles (predeceased) and Barbara Mattina, Sam and Shirley Mattina (predeceased) Josie and Omero (predeceased) Patarrachia and Louis and Valerie Mattina. Cioci (Aunt) Rose will be dearly missed by her many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She is predeceased by her nephews Randy Bovaird and Cam Mattina. She will be lovingly remembered by her dear friends Irene Hrysko (predeceased), Vicki Gowland and Eva Thomas.
Rose emigrated from Poland at the age of eleven with her mother and brother on the ship Pulaski on May 17th, 1935 and arrived in Halifax ten days later to meet their father to begin their new life in Canada. Her sister Bernice was born a few years later in Canada. Throughout her earthly journey she instilled in her loved ones strong values and the ethic of hard work and the importance of family. She was a woman of deep faith and prayer was an integral part of her daily life. Her passions were many as she loved to share her cooking and baking skills with everyone and no one left her home hungry. Her garden and her roses were a source of pride and joy at her home for many years and she shared this love with all of us. In earlier days she looked forward to her bus trips and shopping and the occasional trip to the casino. She was a retired employee of TRW Canada after 46 years of dedicated service and embraced many lifelong friendships with whom she worked.
The family wishes to acknowledge the kindness and extraordinary professional care of all of the staff of Shalom Manor Grimsby during her stay at Orchards. Thank you for your support, guidance and love shown to “Miss Rosie”. We are forever grateful for your vocations in long term care that have meant so much to her family as well. Special thanks are also extended to family physicians Dr. Angela Mazza and Dr. Ilango Thiromourthi, Nurse Susan and Office Manager Yvette for your dedication and understanding of our mother to meet her needs.

Mom, you will be in our hearts forever. Thank you for everything you have done for us and given to us as we keep your memory alive in our hearts today and always. We will love you forever; we will love you for always as our dear mother you will always be. It is now time for you and Dad to dance together once again in heaven as you guide us from above.
