Roland’s Obituary
Passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit on Monday, December 20th, 2021, Roland Walter Cunning at the age of 83 years. Leaving to mourn: stepdaughter Cathy (Brian) Howlett; grandson Blair (Courtney) Howlett; and sister-in-law Theresa; as well as a large circle of family and friends, especially all of his friends at the Westmount Club.
Roll often spoke of the Pike family; Ruby (Harold) and Phyllis (Dudley); his niece Donna (Peter); and Keith Russell.
Roll was predeceased by his wife Phyllis; parents Walter and Doris; brothers: Jack, Baden, Roy, Sandy, Humor, and Joseph; sisters: Bonnie and Georgina; and wonderful friend Betty Pike.
Thanks to all the staff involved in Roll’s care, your compassion and support will never be forgotten. Thanks to Dr. Chaulk, Dr. Eaton, Dr. Lafferty, and Michelle for making the last few weeks so peaceful.
A special thank you to Dr. Coleman and Gertie for all your continuous support over the years and to Dr. Coleman for his daily visits.
Following Roland’s wishes, cremation has taken place at Russell’s Funeral Home, Stephenville. Roll spent his career working with Fillatre’s and then with Russell’s in Stephenville for 50 years as a Funeral Director.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date at the Westmount Club with family and friends. Interment will take place at the Salvation Army Cemetery, King’s Point during the summer.
Donations in Roland’s memory may be made to the Salvation Army Temple or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Roll was very knowledgeable about life and had a zest for life like no other. His favourite spot to visit was his cabin in York Harbour, sitting on his deck, and regular drives to Bottle Cove. He enjoyed every day and he surely loved his life. He loved watching the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Toronto Blue Jays, and not a great Montreal fan.
