We are sad to announce that Rick died at the age of 72 in Sudbury after a short illness.
Beloved and cherished husband of Judith (Judy) Rothwell. Sweet Dad of Kate Lacy (Cameron), Shannon Duquette (John), Maeghan Pemas (Andrew), and Allie Adams (Jeremy). Gramps to Jack, Gavin, Grace, Charlie, Sam, Nora, Oliver, Charlotte, Matilda, and Henry. Dear son of the late Earl Walsh and Doris Desjardins. Also loved and missed by his 7 siblings and many other relatives.
Rick was a deeply religious man with a gentle spirit who loved his wife, children, sons-in-law and grandchildren with his whole heart. He had several good friends whom he treasured. Rick loved downhill skiing and cottage life with his family and friends. He also spent many hours on the golf course both in Haileybury and Florida honing his game and enjoying the camaraderie of his golf partners.
Rick owned and managed R. Walsh Transportation for 29 years and was proud of his success in growing and expanding it along with his very loyal staff. He also spearheaded one of the first transit subsidy agreements for small communities in Ontario.
In the community, he served twice as President of the Haileybury Rotary Club and had the honour of being a Paul Harris Fellow. He spent many years on the executive of the Haileybury Golf Club and was copresident of this organization which is dear to his heart. He also served over the years as a Director of the Ontario Motor Coach Association, Temiskaming Health Unit, Tri Town Community Living and Holy Cross Parish Council.
Visitation for the fully vaccinated will be at Buffam Leveille Funeral Home, Haileybury on Wednesday, December 15th from 1:30 to 3:30 and 6:30 to 8:30. Funeral Mass is Thursday, December 16th at 11:00am at Our Mother of Perpetual Help, New Liskeard. Internment in the spring at Haileybury Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Temiskaming Hospital Foundation Care Close to Home would be appreciated.
