Ray passed peacefully at the Red Deer Hospice on Sunday, June 20, 2021 at the age of 69 years.
Ray lived his life bravely despite having type 1 diabetes all his life. He developed further complications in recent years and while there are blessings in his final release to his Lord, his family will dearly miss their husband, father, brother, grandpa and uncle.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 48 years,Joanne; daughters, Dawn (Trevor) Heath, Kim Burkin, Christine (Josh) Mayan and Jordyn, Lori (Kevin) Stelmaschuk and Nick, Meaghan, Maddisyn and Natalie; brother, Alan and his sisters, Brenda and Cathy. He will also be remembered by his brother-in-law, Rob(Kathy) Bayne; and sister-in-law Doreen(Lorne) LeClair; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ray was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Beryl Burkin; and brothers Bill, Bob and Dennis.
His time in hospice allowed the family to connect and fondly recall the good times. Ray loved his family and friends. He loved camping and visiting Victoria for the last 10 years. His dogs were very special to him and he spent many hours wandering the river paths with them, often with his daughters in tow.
Volunteering as a Cub leader and later a Venture Scout leader gave him a lot of enjoyment where he learned how to winter camp in the snow and various RCMP skills
A celebration of Ray’s Life will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 40 Holmes Street, Red Deer, on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 1:00 pm.
