Peter Schatz January 15 1927 December 21 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving father Peter Schatz.
He passed away peacefully on December 21, 2021 at the age of 94.
Son of Frank and Christina Schatz, Peter was born and raised in Holdfast, Saskatchewan. He was the 4th of 13 children. At 18 years of age, during the depression, Peter left the farm and headed to Vancouver to look for work.
Peter took on many jobs but the majority of his working life was as Parts Manager at Carter GM where he was recognized and rewarded for his contributions.
Peter had stories to tell, made friends easily, and would often strike up conversations with strangers. He was always there to lend a hand and help others in need.
The center of Peter’s world was his family. He has gone to rejoin Bernice, his wife of almost 50 years. Peter will be sadly missed by his son Bill Schatz (Sarah), daughter Anne Meyer (Stephen), granddaughters Laura and Jennifer Schatz, grandson Matthew Meyer, and by a close-knit family of brothers and sisters, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am (PST) Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Parish at 3778 West 28th Avenue, Vancouver BC. Interment to follow at Gardens of Gethsemani at 15800 32nd Ave, Surrey BC.
Due to the current restrictions, seating is limited to 125 guests. For those that wish to join us virtually, please visit www.legacystreaming.com/kearney

  3. Deepest of sympathies to Bill, Sarah, Laura, Jennifer, Anne, Stephen, Matthew, and all of Peter’s extended family and friends. Mr. Schatz was such a warm and friendly man who was always happy to chat. When he and Mrs. Schatz still lived in their house, I used to use their home as an exchange point for anything I needed to drop off for, or pick up from, Bill and Sarah, who were living in North Vancouver. But on more than one occasion, this was not a quick venture, as Mr. Schatz would usher me into their den and we would proceed to have a very animated discussion about all sorts of topics. I was treated like family, and will always remember those times with great fondness. I’m sure that he was so proud to have raised children who carry on that tradition of warmth, compassion and kindness. May he rest in peace with Mrs. Schatz once again at his side.
